Oakbrook Center

First, I just wanted to clarify that this is a street style blog for all Chicago suburbs, and not just Wheaton. I know the name implies that it's just Wheaton, but it's just a name. I'm going to change the subtitle so it says "Street Fashion in the Chicago Suburbs" instead of just Wheaton.

The two following photos were taken today in Urban Outfitters during my shopping trip at Oakbrook Center.

I love her ribbon and bag combination. A nice silk scarf is the perfect accent to almost any bag. Her black leather flats are also wonderful, because you could dress them up or down. Flats are always a great alternative to heels if you're going to be standing up or doing a lot of walking. Her mix of dark tones is offset by her bright bag and scarf. If you're wearing an outfit with similar tones in each piece it's good to add a contrasting accessory that really makes you pop.

This lovely lady is an employee at Urban Outfitters (note the ID tag necklace). I loved her whole look. It looked so relaxed and flowing. I wish everyone could see it in person, because it was just perfect for the hot weather we've been having in Chicago. What really makes this outfit great is her belt and sandals. They are both gold and braided, and like I said before contrast with her dress so she really pops. Metallics are really trendy right now, and this is a good example of how to rock the look if you're a little timid about them. Tons of stores are carrying a variety of metallic looks, so it's easy to find something you like that looks great on you. Can't wait to see Chicago shine with metallics this summer!

Independence [Day] From Bad Fashion

Wheaton, Illinois celebrated the United States' Independence today with a TWO HOUR, yes, you read that correctly--TWO HOUR--parade. After it ended I was walking home when I spotted this classic look...
Name: Michael
Age: 20
Style: "Classic and Rich"

This is a great outfit for a few different reasons:

1. Men shouldn't be afraid of bold colors, especially during the summer. This salmon Polo shirt goes wonderfully with his tan skin tone.

2. It mixes different classics including white Chuck Taylor All Star high-tops, and the Polo brand shirt. Classics don't have to be boring.

3. It showed pride in the U.S. on it's day without going overboard. It was subtly patriotic, without be obnoxious. Too many times I've seen things like sequined American flag vests over red, white, and blue striped shirts-- we get it people-- you love your country.

On The Streets

Name: Danielle

Age: 17

This is a great outfit to exemplify that you don't have to give up style for comfort. Her long t-shirt and black pants are soft and comfy, without sacrificing her style. Her accesories really make the outfit- her Cross necklace and leopard print scarf compliment her outfit perfectly, and the checkered Vans are always great. She said she just cut her bangs herself (extra style points for do-it-yourself style) today and the straight across blunt bangs really work for her.

Name: Jordan

Age: 16

She has a great casual style. I love her graphic t-shirt of the kids riding a bicycle. The jeans short-shorts are a summer-must-have for all girls. Love the all-white Vans and her vintage looking purse too.

Wheaton Style

Wheaton, Illinois is a town of about 60,000 people, about an hour away from Chicago, with more churches than you can imagine. No, it's not really known for it's style, but that's what I'm here to change. My name is Brian McDonough, and as far as I know the Chicago suburbs do not have an active street style blog. So, here's what this is all about: Basically, what I do is take pictures of people I think have great style that I see in the Chicago suburban area. So, here we go...
