STREET.STYLE.WHEATON.STYLE. is on Vacation!

Danielle and I will both be in France from December 28th-January 5th. If I'm not too nervous to try out my rusty French maybe I'll get some pictures of some French fashionistas! Au revoir!

Hello Yellow

Lindsey doesn't let the cloudy weather we've been having in Chicago darken her wardrobe with this cheery yellow coat, and knitted orange cap. The unique cut of her coat is nice, and I love her choice to pair the outfit with a green bag.

"The Redcoats are coming!"

Katie's red coat is the perfect piece for this time of year--festive and functional. The fit is great, especially with the faux belt accenting her tiny waist. Plus, her dark skinny jeans, and black flats let this coat steal the spotlight!
Sorry for the crappy picture, but I love the subtle military details of her coat. Perhaps these guys were her inspiration? ;)

Christmas Sweater Re-Vamped

Usually one would NOT think of a Christmas sweater as stylish, but Kimberly works it out by pairing it up with skinny jeans and grey suede boots. Plus, check out those purple earrings, and the sequins--two words--totally major!

Killer Skirt

Sam mixes a funky patterened skirt with a classic cardigan and t-shirt. The print on the skirt is fun with bright pops of color, and goes great with her cute earrings.

Look Ma, no pants!

Jordan keeps it fresh to death in this grey topcoat and dark brown leather boots. Show off the legs girl, own it!

Over and Under

With the winter months fast approaching, it is difficult to find the will to keep cute. Most are easily swayed to hide under puffy jackets and bulky layers. This jacket is a great example of how to stay fashionable and warm.

And this dress is the treasure underneath.

Put them both together and this is how you rock it.

The "Is that a shirt, or a dress?" Dynamic Duo

Wearing an over-sized shirt is one of my favorite trends for girls. They can show off their legs, and save money on dresses! Caitlin and Christina look FIERCE in theirs, and flaunt their slim waists by belting the shirts. Caitlin (right) wears a red bandana as a headband, red plastic sunnies, a "FRANKIE SAYS RELAX" neon yellow tee, vintage black patent leather belt, and off-white vintage peep-toe heels. Christina (left) wears plastic sunnies with orange sides, a grey and black checked scarf with fringe, blue striped shirt, gold braided belt, and black leather boots.

Two for Tuesday

The tuxedo ruffles on her top are fantastic, and so unique on a plaid shirt. The dark wash of her jeans had a sheen to them which was super cool. Also, I'm a big fan of moccasins when they're done right, and I love these ones with this casual outfit.
This outfit is a great expression of personal style. Sure, not everyone is going to think it is "fashionable," but it's got her own spunk to it, and that's really admirable. The different proportions created with the puffy mini-skirt layered over skinny jeans are wonderful. I support the needed comeback of legwarmers too!

School Daze

The classrooms and halls of Wheaton North High School are, for the most part, extremely bland. It feels as though you are walking through a blur of bad trends and people who don't even care.

BUT, every now and then, you find . . .

A plaid wrap dress needs no explanation.

Nice, Brian. Get her while she's feeding her face.
While it may not be the most flattering photo, at least her dress-over-jeans look is. Some people can't pull this off because they are either too short and the look overwhelms their petite frame or they wear the wrong jeans. This is how you do it right: the dress should fall above the knee and the jeans should be skinny.

This penguin sweater is TDF. So cute and perfect for the chilly weather we've been having.

Light Autumn Layers

Kimmy wears maroon Kenneth Cole glasses, a black sweater-dress, a magenta scarf, a greenish grey army inspired jacket, a brown leather over-sized bag, and dark blue skinny jeans tucked into grey suede boots. This outfit is really functional, while remaining stylish. It's perfect for the colder weather we've been having in Wheaton lately. I love all her layers, especially the bright magenta scarf. Also, she looks so cute carrying all her school books. Don't you just want to offer to carry them for her?

Neon

I know some of you may be thinking I'm contradicting what I said yesterday about layering, but I think it works for this outfit. Emily wears Coach high-top sneakers, black leggings with lace trim, a knit purple and black stiped pocket dress, a Yeah Yeah Yeahs graphic tee, a heart-shaped leopard print pendant, and a neon-yellow Lacoste tote bag. So, about the layering- I like the way her dress sort of frames the picture on her shirt with it's straps. The picture on her tee is super cool. I love her shoes, and her tote bag just makes the whole outfit POP. I'm a fan of the neon-yellow/green and purple combination. It's a nice contrast.
I decided I wanted to start taking close-ups of specific aspects of peoples' outfits that I really liked.

Layering...

First off, let me just say that I am SICK of girls layering for no reason. I recently saw a picture of a girl wearing a very nice cocktail dress to a wedding with a plain white t-shirt layered underneath it. Why? Will someone please explain to me why that was necessary? If you're uncomfortable with how low cut it is, or how thin the straps are, then don't wear it! Unless, of course, you have something that actually looks GOOD layered underneath it. With that, here is one way to layer clothing which I definitely approve.
Lizzy keeps it classy with a great early Fall outfit. The print on her sweater vest is beautiful. Also, her rings are super cool with two unique designs. Her black pants are a nice casual alternative to jeans. Sometimes, black pants can look too dressy for just an average day in school, but black capris are a great solution to that problem (while the weater is still warm enough for them).

Cocktail Dresses

The details on this dress are beautiful. They give the effect of giant black flowers covering her hips. The rust colored tights are very in trend right now, and perfect for Autumn. They really draw your attention to her great legs with the bold color choice.

The color of this dress is wonderful. I love Catherine's take on the silver dress trend. The lace trim is very elegant. She compliments the dress with a pair of metallic silver Jessica Simpson flats. I also love her bright red rose corsage- very classy.

The black ribbon and broach underneath her bust make this simple white dress special. She keeps it simple and cute with a black necklace, bracelet, and pumps.

Sarah wears a simple and chic chocolate brown dress and gold metallic flats. This dress looks great on her. It's strapless so it shows off her shoulders. She also chose not to wear jewelry, which surprisingly drew even more attention to her long neck and shoulders. I love the centered double pleating at her waist. The metallic flats are super trendy right now, and a very functional, yet stylish, alternative to heels. Plus, her pose is FIERCE.

Farewell to Summer

I think this outfit is sort of a farewell/last hurrah for summer outfits. The pastels and light cotton skirt just make it feel so much like Summer. Catherine wears a pink Abercrombie v-neck top, blue and pink striped skirt, and the Marc by Marc Jacobs London Tote. Marc knows how to do a tote. I love the graphics. I do wish I had gotten a better picture of her top, because it fit her very well. Oh well!

En la classe de francais

Erika wears brown plaid flats, cuffed denim capris, sheer lavender top, over-sized (faux) alligator bag, and mix-mash of a few bracelets. This top is awesome for a few reasons. First off, I love the button pattern. I don't know if you can see it when you click on the larger hyperlink but it's very unique. Second, sheer material is very in trend right now in high fashion. Third, it shows off her hips with the tie right below her waist. Also, the mix of bracelets is a subtle but very cool way to accessorize the outfit.

Bohemian farm girl...?

FASHION IN MOTION. Christina shows off her dancing skills in great boho chic.
You work that tractor! OWN IT.

Casual Kiel

Kiel wears Levi's slim straight-leg jeans, brown Chuck Taylor Converse, vintage shirt, and newsboy cap. I like how simple, causal, and effortlessly cool this outfit is. His jeans are great because they're slim, but they're not too tight.

BOOTS

Jordan wears vintage leather boots with an orange printed skirt and tee complete with maroon messenger bag. What I love about this outfit is that all of the pieces don't necessarily match, but "go."

Rainboots on non-little kids are even cuter than on little kids. And yellow- the color of the season, nay, the year.

Boy Shorts

So let's just say I'm obsessed with the fact that there are bats on these shorts. AND the return of gelly shoes (in a more stylish version, of course)! YES!

Downtown Hipster

So, I know this is supposed to be just for the suburbs of Chicago but I figure it's okay to have a few exceptions. This was taken dowtown Chicago on Michigan Avenue. I'm focusing on the man on the right. First off, love the white jeans-- so stylish right now, and he's able to pull them off. Plus, I'm a big fan of v-neck tees, and stripes so he gets extra points for his choice in t-shirts. I also love the pop of his red shoes. Red shoes seem to make almost any outfit great.
